The St. Bernadette Museum

It is more than a museum, it is almost a path of catechesis on the life story of the little Soubirous, the apparitions and his path to holiness. We recommend that you start here from the first two rooms to get an overview of Lourdes of that days, the life of Bernadette and his contemporaries. In the first room stands the model that reproduces the city at that age: it is well understood as the Grotto of Massabielle was out of town, it was a dirty, seedy and lonely where every day a hundred pigs went to drink and eat grass. It was the dump of Lourdes, but the Virgin chose to appear to Bernadette right there for the first time on the 11th February 1858, to appear at the poorest and most despised child of the country.

Going on the path, you know the faces of contemporary Bernadette, who shared with her the extraordinary story of the apparitions. Some objects of that time are stored, particularly significant is the rosary with which she was buried: it is worn out, almost destroyed, while the small body was found intact.
